What
must it feel like?
Close your eyes and imagine that you can never open them
again. What hopes and dreams would slip away in the
darkness?
Now imagine yourself as a blind, orphaned child like
those in the photos on this page. How would would you cope?
A shared dream
My father, Sital Singh Sitara, lost his eyesight at the
age of three. Despite this, he became a talented
musician.
In 1988, in Punjab, India, my father and three blind
friends fulfilled a life long dream to set up a music academy and training school for
blind children - the Guru Nanak Blind Missionary Society
- of which I am a trustee. Sadly two of the founders
have passed away.
Little Blind People
The charity now goes by the name
Little Blind People,
and is registered in the UK and India.
Little Blind People is known throughout the world for
its work training blind children to become musicians,
and is the only project of its kind in India.
The
charity is based at an ashram in Phagwara, Punjab,
India. Fundraising events take place all over the world,
with my father, Sital Singh Sitara, doing much of the
fundraising - singing at concerts, holding fundraisers at
Sikh temples and teaching music classes.

The
next generation of fundraisers already has one hand on
the baton.
I am planning to hold a photography exhibition in London
in the autumn and some of the proceeds of the exhibition
will go to Little blind People, and there is an autumn
dinner planned for this year.
